Female students from Akilah women’s Institute will be given first priority of working and acquiring free training in the Middle East, courtesy of Marriot Hotels Kigali.
After completing their academic courses at the Kigali based women’s Institute, the benefiting students will start taking practical skills trainings in three Marriot hotels around the world. This will be effective from 14 September this year.
A group of girls from Akilah meet this weekend met with the officials of the Marriot Hotels International, at Kigali Serena hotel and discussed the prospectus of objectives of the hotel and how it would help boost the service sector.
Gary Dodds an official of Marriott International Middle East & Africa said that the hotel’s focus is to employee and train their local staff members as a way of promoting the service delivery in tourism sector and at the same time empower the girls to attain their goals in life, starting with Akilah institute.
The director of Akilah Women’s Institute, Lisa Martilotta, said that the decision of Marriot hotels is a blessing to the Rwandan people, which will also put Rwanda on the world map for being the first in Africa to have operations of the five-star world class hotel.
The Rwandan trainees will receive skills in line with the standards of Marriot hotels and will be able to train other staff members back in Kigali after completion of their studies.
The students will travel to the training destination courtesy of RwandAir and Each student will receive a $1000 USD monthly stipend. The Rwandan students will also be closely assisted by the hotel administration during their stay abroad.
Marriot Hotel Kigali is located in the heart of Kigali city. The hotel has over 250 rooms, and is expected to employ over 250 Rwandans once the hotel construction is completed next year.
